Abstract
About one thousand and two hundred prescriptions for outpatients are issued daily in our hospital pharmacy and in administration there are some patients who did not take the dispensed drugs on the same day. For evaluating the reason why they did not take the drugs, we surveyed from January 3, 1994 to July 31, 1994. Around 2,018 cases of 73,914(equivalent to 1.2% or 12.7 cases per day) dispensed drugs were not taken by patients during this period. Distribution of clinical department was 43.6%, 8.9% and 6.8% in internal medicine, dermatology and otolaryngology respectively. In distribution by sex, male was 51.2% and this is higher than the rate of female. The age of those who did not administer the medicine was 38.8% in 41-60 years, 31.4% in 20-40 years and the number of prescription day of untaken drugs was about 1-7 days mostly. The causes which influenced to unadministered medicine was that 50.1% of them who did not take drugs intended to take it next time, and the patients who had no idea of prescribed medicine was 6.7%, so we can estimate that there is no relationship between unadministration and waiting time for taking drugs in Asan Medical Center.
